“A nationwide ICMR-INDIAB survey published in The Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology found that generalized obesity affects 28.6 percent and abdominal obesity 39.5 percent of the Indian population, alongside a diabetes prevalence of 11.4 percent.”
However, modern science has developed the latest technologies and tools that help significantly in altering the gastrointestinal anatomy, which helps in rewriting the hormonal system. There are also other surgical methods, which are commonly known as weight loss surgery/bariatric surgery, gastric bypasses, sleeve gastrectomy, and metabolic surgery, which are among the most effective ways to reduce body fat by 50-80 percent. A deep insight from Dr. Amit Sood, the founder of Ckosmic Health City and the Best Weight Loss Surgeon In Jalandhar with 20+ years of experience, highlighted that the surgical procedure goes beyond just weight reduction, as it significantly improves metabolic health, which serves as a powerful health restorative tool that drastically enhances overall life expectancy and physical well-being
Why Metabolic Surgery Is Gaining Attention
The first-line treatments consist of medication, a healthy, balanced diet, and physical activity, which will always remain the same. Sometimes first-line treatment fails to show visible weight loss, at which point the doctor may recommend bariatric surgery, also known as metabolic surgery.
Metabolic surgery is gaining a lot of attention, and more patients now look for the best bariatric surgeon. In Jalandhar because it offers a long-term, highly effective solution for metabolic disorders, high blood pressure, fatty liver, sleep apnea, nerve pain, abdominal issues, and hormonal imbalances. Before, it was only seen as a way to enhance beauty features by reducing body fat, but nowadays it is a meticulous way to get rid of chronic lifestyle diseases.
How Metabolic Surgery Helps Beyond Weight Loss
Metabolic surgery is not just a surgery for weight loss. It is a life-changing decision for many patients and also a road to a healthier life. It completely changes the working of gut hormones, improves insulin sensitivity, and rapidly restores normal blood glucose levels. It also eliminates the root cause of metabolic disorders if the treatment plan is followed as prescribed.
“According to the STAMPEDE trial published in the New England Journal of Medicine, five-year results show that metabolic surgery leads to lasting blood sugar control, continued weight loss, and reduced cardiovascular burden. Over five years, intensive surgery significantly lowered the need for diabetes medications, with insulin dependency dropping from 47% to 12% after gastric bypass and from 45% to 11% after sleeve gastrectomy.”
Do you need surgery? What to look for
It isn't for everyone: depending on the results, some patients may be able to achieve better results just with a good diet, good exercise, lifestyle changes, and medication; on the other hand, some will not get the same results. An individual's medical history affects the ability to undergo metabolic surgery; they may have diabetes, high blood pressure, hormonal issues, and issues with their gut.
Surgery has to be the last step if the first- and second-line treatments don't work, and it can have side effects when the body isn't ready for it. It's crucial to leave the decision to the doctor.
The Importance of an Experienced Surgeon
Metabolic surgery is a full program of treatment. This includes assessment and decision-making prior to the operation, the operation itself, safety monitoring immediately after surgery, and long-term, multidisciplinary follow-up. The outcome of your operation depends greatly on your surgeon's skills and experience.
