Tokyo, Japan, 6 July 2026 : O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) successfully convened the 3rd India–Japan Higher Education Forum 2026 on the theme “Shaping Universities of the Future in the Era of Human and Artificial Intelligence.” The Forum in Tokyo brought together senior university leaders, diplomats, policymakers, academics and students from India and Japan for a substantive dialogue on higher education, academic mobility, research collaboration, technology, sustainability and education diplomacy. The Forum brought together a former Prime Minister of Japan, a distinguished Indian parliamentarian, diplomats and senior leaders of Japan’s leading universities to shape the future of higher education in the age of artificial intelligence at a defining moment in the India–Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.

It assumed special significance in the larger context of the India–Japan Summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, which reaffirmed the depth and future direction of the India–Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership. At a moment when both nations are advancing cooperation in technology, innovation, artificial intelligence, economic security, resilience and people-to-people exchanges, the Tokyo Colloquium underscored the indispensable role of universities in giving intellectual, institutional and human depth to this partnership.

The Inaugural Session opened with a Welcome Address by Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, Founding Vice Chancellor of JGU, followed by a Special Address by H.E. Mr. Hatoyama Yukio, Former Prime Minister of Japan. In his reflective address, Mr. Hatoyama remarked: “Japan and India share a relationship that goes beyond diplomacy and contemporary cooperation. It is rooted in a deeper civilisational bond shaped over centuries by Buddhism, ethical thought and spiritual exchange. The philosophy of Yu-ai, or fraternity, speaks to mutual respect, mutual understanding and mutual assistance, and finds a natural resonance with Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of Ahimsa (Non-Violence) and Sarvodaya (The Welfare of All). In this shared inheritance, Japan and India have the opportunity to offer the world a vision of harmony, human dignity and coexistence, inspired by the timeless Indian wisdom that the world is one family.”

He concluded by saying, “Education for young people is inseparable from the creation of our future, and I sincerely hope that deeper collaboration between JGU and Japanese universities will enable more students to participate in mutual exchange, strengthening Japan–India relations in academia, economics and culture.”

Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar then delivered the Inaugural Address, confirming JGU’s long-term commitment to Japan and its vision of universities as enduring bridges between the two nations. A Special Address was delivered by H.E. Mr. R. Madhu Sudan, Chargé d’Affaires, Embassy of India, Tokyo, who conveyed the Mission’s warm support for deeper academic and institutional cooperation between India and Japan and welcomed the Forum as a timely contribution to the two countries’ Special Strategic and Global Partnership.

This was followed by the Keynote Address, delivered by Professor (Dr.) Tomohiko Taniguchi, Former Special Advisor to the Cabinet of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who offered a considered perspective on the strategic dimensions of the India–Japan relationship and the role of knowledge, innovation and higher education in shaping the future of the Indo-Pacific and the world at large.

A key highlight was the Distinguished Public Lecture by Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, India, and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs. Addressing a full and distinguished audience of university leaders, diplomats and students, Dr. Tharoor reflected on the evolving relationship between India and Japan and the role of higher education, ideas and people-to-people engagement in shaping the future of Asia in an age of rapid technological change. In the course of his remarks, he warmly appreciated JGU’s sustained and meticulous efforts in building deep and enduring academic ties with Japan, observing that institutional initiative of this kind embodies the very people-to-people foundations on which lasting bilateral relationships are built.

The session also witnessed the launch of the JGU Sustainability Report 2026 by Professor Padmanabha Ramanujam, Dean, Office of Academic Governance, JGU.

The Forum’s Panel Discussion brought together an esteemed gathering of senior leaders from Japan’s leading universities on a single stage. Moderated by Professor (Dr.) C. The Forum also hosted a Certificate Distribution Ceremony for nearly 200 JGU students who completed Short-Term Study Abroad Programmes (ST-SAPs) at JGU’s partner universities across Japan in Summer 2026, including Chuo University, Kyorin University, Musashi University, Temple University, Japan Campus, the University of Tokyo and the University of Yamanashi. “Asia’s evolving geopolitical landscape demonstrates that the strongest international partnerships are patiently built through sustained investments in education, research, technology, human capital, institutional cooperation, and innovation. India and Japan, he said, possess a unique opportunity to deepen their relationship further by investing in universities, scientific collaboration, entrepreneurship, academic mobility, and knowledge partnerships,” He said. He called for a future in which Indian and Japanese universities work even more closely together, researchers jointly address global challenges, students move more freely between both countries, and governments, industry, and academia collectively develop solutions for the Indo-Pacific and beyond. Such investments, he argued, create relationships that are resilient because they are founded not only on policy but also on people.

Highlighting JGU’s own engagement with Japan, Professor Raj Kumar noted that the University’s partnerships with 27 leading Japanese institutions and the participation of nearly 200 students in study abroad programmes across Japan reflect a sustained institutional commitment to building long-term academic cooperation. These partnerships have strengthened student mobility, faculty collaboration, joint research, innovation, and intercultural understanding, demonstrating how universities can serve as enduring bridges between nations.

Professor Raj Kumar observed that higher education has become one of the defining pillars of contemporary India–Japan relations because universities cultivate trust, mutual understanding, leadership, and lifelong friendships that strengthen bilateral cooperation across generations.

Concluding his address, Professor Raj Kumar remarked that if the 20^th century laid the foundations of trust between India and Japan, the 21^st  century must become one in which that trust is transformed into a comprehensive partnership driven by knowledge, technology, sustainability, innovation, entrepreneurship, and shared democratic values. Sharing the platform with Dr. Shashi Tharoor, he described the occasion as a powerful affirmation of the complementary roles that higher education and parliamentary diplomacy can play in advancing one of Asia’s most significant strategic partnerships.

Dr. Shashi Tharoor reflected on the equally important role of parliamentary diplomacy and observed that diplomacy is not merely about negotiating interests or responding to crises. At its finest, he said, diplomacy preserves memory, reflects mutual respect, and inspires nations to imagine and build a better future together.

Reflecting on the centuries-old relationship between India and Japan, Dr. Tharoor said, “The friendship between the two countries has been nurtured through Buddhism, cultural exchange, democratic values, and deep civilisational respect. This shared history, is not only a source of pride but also a responsibility. The challenge before both nations is not to create a new friendship but to continually renew and strengthen an enduring one through institutions capable of serving future generations. While governments create strategic partnerships, it is ultimately people who sustain them. The future of India–Japan relations will depend as much upon the relationships built among students, scholars, parliamentarians, entrepreneurs, artists, innovators, scientists, and citizens as upon agreements signed by governments. These enduring human connections transform strategic cooperation into lasting partnership.”

At a time when India and Japan are engaging at the highest political level to shape the future of their Special Strategic and Global Partnership, the interaction in Tokyo served as a timely reminder that governments alone cannot build enduring international relationships. Bengaluru, July 01, 2026 : Inventure Academy, Bengaluru (India Learning Foundation) has been named among the Top 10 schools globally for the World’s Best School Prize for Community Collaboration 2026 by T4 Education, recognising the school’s efforts to build partnerships that strengthen learning, community impact and nation building, creating a meaningful impact beyond its own campus.

Established in 2022, the World’s Best School Prizes celebrate schools that are transforming lives and sharing practices that can help improve education around the world.

The recognition highlights a philosophy that has shaped Inventure Academy since its founding in 2005: that schools do their best work when they learn and grow alongside the communities they serve.

These collaborations have taken many forms, from initiatives such as the Change Maker Challenge and Our Voice to musical productions, community outreach, internships, and partnerships with civic organisations, researchers and public institutions. Together, they have created opportunities for students and educators to engage meaningfully with issues of public importance, contributing insights and lived experiences to conversations around child safety and wellbeing, educational equity, the implementation of India’s National Education Policy, and the Right to Learn. They have also encouraged greater civic awareness of the opportunities and challenges facing the city, including questions of mobility, infrastructure and access, helping elevate the voices of young people in discussions about the future of their communities. Through performances, campaigns and community events, the Inventure community has also helped mobilise awareness and resources for its partner schools, extending learning and social impact beyond the classroom.

One of the most significant examples of this approach has been its partnership with the Government Higher Primary School, Ramagondanahalli (RGH), launched in 2019 in collaboration with the Karnataka Department of Public Instruction and Whitefield Rising.

Over the past five years, enrolment at the school has increased from fewer than 200 to almost 1,200, with a further 350 students on the waitlist. The first three Grade 10 cohorts recorded a

100 per cent board examination pass rate, while independent ASER assessments showed learning outcomes well above State averages and, in some grades, among the highest in the country. Over this period, Inventure enabled the recruitment of 40 teachers at RGH and today sustains a total of 64 teachers across its community schools.

In 2024, the Ramagondanahalli partnership was extended for a further 10 years, with Inventure committing more than ₹44 crore (approximately US$5.1 million) towards the programme’s operations and implementation over the next decade. Building on this success, in 2025, Inventure, together with Prestige Group and the Navodaya Foundation, expanded the model to three additional government schools in partnership with the Karnataka Department of School Education: Government Tamil Higher Primary School, Thimmaiah Road, Shivajinagar; Government Urdu Model School, Siddahosanahalli, near the Yeshwanthpur campus; and Government Higher Primary School, Kodathi, near the Whitefield-Sarjapur campus. Prestige Group has committed ₹62.28 crore (approximately US$7.2 million) over the next decade towards these partnerships, while the Navodaya Foundation has committed ₹1.5 crore (approximately US$175,000) over the first three years. Together, these commitments take the combined long-term investment across Inventure’s community school ecosystem to more than ₹108 crore (approximately US$12.6 million).

Beyond its community school partnerships, Inventure’s wider ecosystem includes collaborations with civic organisations, research institutions and global networks, including B.PAC, Whitefield Rising, IIT Gandhinagar, the New York Academy of Sciences, Prayoga, Round Square and the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN). These partnerships create opportunities for students and educators to engage with real-world questions and contribute to communities beyond the classroom.

Belagavi/Panaji, March 2026 : When Taekwondo Master Shreepada R. Rao appeared before the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal on behalf of Yakshit Yuva Foundation, few could have imagined that the proceedings would result in a significant judicial ruling with implications extending far beyond a single charitable organisation.

The decision, delivered by the Panaji Bench of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT), directed the grant of registration under Sections 12AB and 80G of the Income-tax Act to Yakshit Yuva Foundation. More importantly, the ruling recognised that organised SPORTS TRAINING does constitute "education"  and charitable activity under Indian law.

For India's sports ecosystem, grassroots sports organisations, martial arts institutions and sports education programmes, the judgment has become an important reference point.

Yet what makes the case truly remarkable is not only the outcome, but the individual behind it.

Unlike most tax appals, which are argued by Advocates, Chartered Accountants or specialised tax practitioners, this case was personally researched, prepared and argued by Taekwondo Master Shreepada R. Rao, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Yakshit Yuva Foundation.

A sports administrator, governance consultant and research scholar in Sports Management and Governance, Taekwondo Master Rao had no formal professional background in law, taxation, accountancy or courtroom litigation. Nevertheless, he undertook the challenge of studying the relevant legal provisions, judicial precedents and policy frameworks after the Foundation's renwal applications were rejected by the Income Tax Department.

What followed was an extraordinary journey from the dojang to the Tribunal.

FROM SPORTS ADMINISTRATION TO LEGAL RESEARCH

The rejection of Yakshit Yuva Foundation's renewal applications presented a challenge that many grassroots sports organisations face across the country.

The Department deemed that the activities such as Taekwondo training, self-defence education and sports development does not qualify as charitable activity under the Income-tax Act.

For many organisations, such a setback marks the end of the matter.

For Taekwondo Master Shreepada R. Rao, however, it became the beginning of a much larger question.

Why cant organised sports training be recognised as education under Indian law?

The answer was not merely important for Yakshit Yuva Foundation. It carried implications for thousands of sports academies, martial arts institutions, self-defence programmes, athlete development initiatives and community sports organisations throughout India.

Determined to pursue the issue, Taekwondo Master Rao immersed himself in legal research despite having no formal legal training.

He studied judicial precedents, analysed statutory provisions and examined how courts had interpreted education within the charitable framework.

Over time, he developed a legal argument that connected sports education with long-established principles recognised by Indian courts.

BUILDING THE LEGAL FRAMEWORK FOR SPORTS EDUCATION

At the heart of the appeal was a simple but powerful proposition.

Education is not confined to classrooms, textbooks and examinations.

Organised sports training teaches discipline, develops skills, builds character, improves decision-making, strengthens leadership qualities and promotes self-confidence.

Taekwondo Master Rao argued that these outcomes fall squarely within the broader understanding of education recognised by Indian jurisprudence.

Drawing upon established judicial principles, he contended that structured Taekwondo training is a process of teaching and learning that contributes to the development of knowledge, skill, mind and character.

The Tribunal carefully examined these submissions.

In a significant finding, it accepted the position that systematic sports training aimed at developing knowledge, skill, mind and character falls within the scope of education for the purposes of charitable registration under the Income-tax Act.

For many observers, this aspect of the judgment represents its most important contribution to Indian sports and charitable jurisprudence.

CONNECTING SPORTS WITH MODERN EDUCATIONAL POLICY

Another distinctive feature of the case was its connection to contemporary educational thinking.

Taekwondo Master Rao highlighted the growing recognition of sports as an important component of holistic education and personal development.

The proceedings drew attention to the broader vision reflected in the National Education Policy 2020, which emphasises experiential learning, life skills, character development and well-rounded education.

The Tribunal recorded that the objectives of Yakshit Yuva Foundation were consistent with these principles.

By doing so, the ruling reinforced the idea that "sport is not merely a recreational activity but a meaningful educational tool capable of shaping young lives" .

RECOGNITION OF TAEKWONDO AND SPORTS DEVELOPMENT

The appeal also addressed the importance of promoting recognised sports.

Taekwondo Master Rao argued that activities undertaken for the development and promotion of Taekwondo should be viewed in light of the sport's recognised status within the applicable legal framework.

The Tribunal examined the relevant provisions and accepted that promotion of such recognised sporting activities possesses charitable characteristics.

This finding strengthened the Foundation's case while also recognising the wider social value of organised sports development.

EVIDENCE OF IMPACT BEYOND TRAINING HALL.

The success of the appeal was not based solely upon legal arguments.

The Tribunal reviewed extensive evidence relating to the activities of Yakshit Yuva Foundation across Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Among the programmes examined was the Foundation's "Kick & Shout" initiative, through which the underprivileged girls received self-defence training through over 72 workshops.

The Foundation also conducted sports education programmes, awareness initiatives and community outreach activities that reached thousands of students.

These efforts demonstrated that the organisation's work extended beyond competitive sport and encompassed youth development, self-defence education, community empowerment and social welfare.

A RARE EXAMPLE of SELF-REPRESENTATION

Perhaps the most extraordinary aspect of the case is that the legal framework accepted by the Tribunal was completely drafted, developed and presented by Taekwondo Master Shreepada R. Rao himself.

The Tribunal records him as the Authorised Representative of the appellant organisation.

In specialised tax litigation, such appearances are typically undertaken by trained legal or tax professionals.

Taekwondo Master Rao's achievement therefore extends beyond securing registration for Yakshit Yuva Foundation.

Without formal training in law, taxation or litigation, he successfully navigated a complex appellate process, researched judicial precedents, formulated legal arguments and secured a ruling that influences future treatment of sports education under Indian charitable law.

It is this unusual combination of sports leadership, self-learning, public policy understanding and legal reasoning that makes the case exceptional.

A Victory Beyond Yakshit Yuva Foundation

While the immediate beneficiary of the judgment is Yakshit Yuva Foundation, its implications are much wider.

Across India, numerous sports academies, martial arts institutions, grassroots sports programmes, self-defence initiatives and charitable sports organisations often face questions concerning their legal status and eligibility for charitable recognition.

The Tribunal's reasoning provides important support for the proposition that organised sports education serves a genuine educational and public purpose.

For the grassroots sports ecosystem, the decision represents a significant step towards greater recognition of sport as a vehicle for education, character-building, youth development and social advancement.

FROM THE DOJANG TO A LANDMARK PRECEDENT

For Yakshit Yuva Foundation, the ruling represents validation of years of work dedicated to sports education, model sports governance policies and community development.

Kalahandi (Odisha) [India], January 18: In its ongoing flagship “Swarna Prashan” healthcare initiative, India’s largest aluminium producer Vedanta Aluminium in partnership with the Ministry of AYUSH has positively impacted 22,000 students in Odisha till date.

Since the launch of this healthcare initiative in September 2024, the latest 5th phase has successfully been completed by benefitting over 5000 students. The campaign was rolled out in 13 government schools in tribal-dominated Kalahandi district of Odisha.

In his remarks, Dr Kshetra Kand, Ayurvedic Medical Officer, Kalahandi said, “The Swarna Prashan programme is a significant initiative in promoting Ayurvedic health practices for children’s well-being. I appreciate Vedanta Aluminium’s collaboration with the government and community stakeholders to nurture a healthier future for the next generation.”

In his reactions, Sunil Gupta, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Vedanta Aluminium said, “Vedanta Aluminium is committed to improving child health and well-being in underserved regions through sustainable interventions like Swarna Prashan. This programme, rooted in Ayurvedic wisdom, ensures that children receive the necessary support for cognitive and physical development.”

New Delhi [India] October 28: KIET Group of institutions, successfully organized the Hackathon Phase 2 of IEEE Sustainable Solutions for Humanity 2024 on 21^st & 22^nd October 2024. This 24-hour hackathon was a collaborative initiative by IEEE Region 10 and IEEE India Council to provide a prestigious platform for tech-savvy students across the sections of Asia and the Pacific. Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is the largest technical professional organization in the world that is dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.

A total of 210 teams participated in the first Phase (held online), of which, 51 teams (149 students – 87 boys & 62 girl students) from 10 states/sections of IEEE and 32 institutes of the country attended the second Phase of this hackathon. This event gave an opportunity to the tech enthusiasts to form inter-college teams, with one female member in each of them. Sponsored by TBI-KIET and IEEE Region 10, this event encouraged the participants to find innovative solutions to the real-world problem statements on 8 tracks pertaining to Education, AR/VR, Environment, Generative AI, Green Energy, Healthcare, Open Innovation, and Blockchain.

Throughout the hackathon, the participants were mentored by faculty coordinators, providing invaluable guidance and industry insights. They worked for 24 hours on respective problem statements and showcased their prototype/solution before distinguished jury panel.

Business leaders worldwide concur that gender equality in work constitutes cornerstone of any business. Sambalpur, Odisha : To empower the traditional handloom sector of India, particularly in Odisha, IIM Sambalpur, one of the premier management institutions, organized a Buyer-Seller Meet at its campus. The event aimed to facilitate networking between master weavers and distinguished buyers from various regions of India, including prominent brands such as FabIndia, Nykaa Fashions, Reliance Swadesh, and Aditya Birla Liva. The initiative provided master weavers with direct access to the market, thereby significantly enhancing their global business opportunities and promoting the rich heritage of Odisha's handloom industry. On the occasion, a booklet entitled ‘Natural Dyeing' was also unveiled by the dignitaries.

The event also marked the successful conclusion of the second edition of the 12-weekend 'Small Business Management Training Programme,' specifically designed for master weavers from Western Odisha being conducted at the IIM Sambalpur campus. The programme was organized in collaboration with several key stakeholders including the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI); Aditya Birla Grasim, Imperial College, ORMAS and Mission Shakti Department of Odisha. Furthermore, the day featured an exhibition cum sale of weaver products that showcased a diverse array of handloom creations, highlighting significant advancements in Sustainable Fashion. The exhibition emphasized the use of fibre yarns dyed with natural dyes including Excel yarn as well as innovations in fibre yarns sourced from water hyacinth, bamboo, and banana plants.  The valedictory event attracted over 1,000 delegates comprising of senior management representatives from SIDBI, Aditya Birla Grasim Industries, and other distinguished individuals within the handloom sector. Moreover, the institute has formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Flipkart to facilitate the onboarding of master weavers and artisan products on to the digital marketing platform, thereby enhancing their market reach. The program was attended by more than 1000 people including buyer, sellers, master weavers, faculty, staff, and students of IIM Sambalpur. 

Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director, IIM Sambalpur, delivered a thought-provoking address that underscored the significant role of the handloom sector in preserving India's rich cultural heritage. The keynote address delivered by Arup Kumar, CGM and Eastern Zonal In-charge, SIDBI, highlighted the cluster intervention programme being conducted by SIDBI in collaboration with IIMs and IITs to enhance the capabilities of small and medium enterprises, particularly within the handloom sector. It is noteworthy to remember that the 12-day weekend programme, organized by the Center for Responsible Business of IIM Sambalpur, was specifically designed to empower the traditional handloom sector in Odisha. The second cohort witnessed active participation from 25 master weavers, building upon the successful completion of the first cohort, which included 18 participants.

The buyer-seller meet was held in association with the SIDBI Cluster Intervention Programme, Natural dye immersion programme, Birla Cellulose, Aditya Birla, and Imperial College. This event introduced Excel yarn, a sustainable material from Birla Cellulose by Aditya Birla, with a display of various products dyed naturally using this innovative yarn. The BSM showcased an extensive collection of products made with Excel yarn, demonstrating the versatility of this material when combined with both natural and other dyes including the products which have been produced during the training programme at Imperial College. The exhibition and buyer-seller meet presented a diverse array of products developed within the cluster, reflecting both traditional craftsmanship, and innovative designs. The showcased items included sarees, dupattas, stoles, bedsheets, wall hangings, and handkerchiefs crafted from cotton and silk. A special highlight was the range of products developed using natural and other dyes with Excel, bamboo, and banana yarn.

However, over the past decade, it has become increasingly apparent that children, after graduating from schools with high grades, and landing traditionally “secure” jobs across sectors, struggle with cornerstone professional skills like coping with stress, empathetic peer interaction, compassion for self, and resilience.

This discovery, globally, has sparked a conversation on re-envisioning the educational landscape. Why are students finding it difficult to learn? Is it anxiety or a sense of uncertainty about the future? Or is there something more?

Read on for a sit down with Monal Jayaram, Co-founder and Director, School of Education and Systems Change (SOESC) at the Piramal Foundation. In this interview, we explore the approach SOESC has taken to mitigate this crucial gap to achieve transformative results.

Q I.  What are some of the challenges that you see impacting children’s education in India today? 

A: Three questions drive our work at the School of Education & System Change at Piramal School of Leadership. First, why are children unable to read and write despite intense country-wide efforts? Second, will focusing only on reading & writing make children future-ready? And third, how can school systems transform to realize that 21st-century education cannot be delivered through 20th-century thinking, behaviour, and systems? In fact, in one of his speeches, PM Narendra Modi too has made a note of this. 

We work with eight hypotheses built over the last 15 years as to why students aren’t learning. And we realize that it stems from their difficult backgrounds. There is violence, abuse, trauma, and neglect that impact a child, which is called Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE). Research shows that children affected by ACE have a lower brain functioning capacity, further impacting learning problems. 

Then there is the additional layer of social discrimination based on religion, caste, and gender. Child labour and child marriages are still relevant in India. In pure numbers, as many as 4.35 million children aged between 5 and 14 years are still caught in child labour (Census 2011). Nearly one in five young girls in India is married before they turn 18, often dropping out of school as a result.

As we move towards a Viksit Bharat, we have to understand that Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) is not enough - we have to make a conscious shift towards building 21st-century Competencies. Imagine a school system that enables students to build an entrepreneurial mindset, where their agency and problem-solving skills are nurtured so that tomorrow, they can create jobs for themselves. Most importantly, the underlying factor as we make a shift towards an unprecedented future is to build agency, resilience, and compassion in students.

Q II:  What is unique about SOESC’s approach to addressing these gaps and transforming the education landscape?

A: At the Piramal School of Leadership, our education systems transformation thinking is established in three layers. The first is 21st Century Education which unlocks agency in children and prepares them for the future. The second is Leadership Development and Personal Transformation, which unlocks agency among Middle Managers from government systems; and the third is Organization Development of Government Institutions to transform institutional culture with compassion and Sewa Bhaav.

We have evolved seven potential solutions - Social, Emotional, and Ethical Learning (SEE Learning), Project-based Learning, Aesthetic Literacy, Physical Literacy, School to Work, Compassionate Gender-transformative Education, and Digital Literacy. Our solutions are integrated into the government system to make a sustainable impact. This happens via processes like assessment reform, scholarship reform, reforms in the State Institute of Educational Management and Training (SIEMAT), State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), and District Institute of Educational Training (DIET), process reengineering, and governance reform.

Over the last 15 years, our interventions have demonstrated behavioural change across middle managers and teachers and achieved improvement outcomes in 21st-century competencies, like critical thinking, compassion, and life-long learning. 

Solutions like SEE Learning have shown over 11% improvement in students’ 21st-century competency scores, and solutions like Project-Based Learning have shown over 20% improvement in student performance from middle and secondary schools in Language, Math, and Science. 

Our approach has enabled us to work in 91 districts across eight states. We collaborate with over 200 state institutions, 1.6 lakh schools, 12.5 thousand Middle Managers, and 6.5 lakh teachers to serve approximately 1.2 crore children.

Q III. Why do you think India, particularly Rajasthan, needs SEE Learning today?

A. The world we live in is becoming more dynamic. The ever-evolving technology landscape, the impending climate crisis, and the resulting shift in the job market requirements are making it important to equip adolescents with life skills beyond the academic curriculum. Students today need to be resilient to varying degrees of change. Our National Education Policy 2020 also highlights the importance of SEE Learning for the holistic development of children.

Specifically, in the case of Rajasthan, we have spoken with education authorities who have themselves recognized that early marriage, early pregnancy, and child labor exist despite best efforts. Officials at the centre and state have also shared a deep concern around rising cases of suicide and related mental health concerns, as well as social-emotional well-being among adolescents. I believe the need for something as revolutionary as SEE Learning becomes apparent even more so.

Q IV: Has the status quo changed since SOESC, PSL jumped into action in Rajasthan?

A: There are different signifiers to how our work in Rajasthan has been transformative. If we look at pure numbers, from operating in only one district (Jhunjhunu) in 2019, today we reach 33 districts across the state.

There are also moving stories of transformation. For instance, there’s one of a  14-year-old girl from Chirawa, Rajasthan. Such was her emotional struggle that the inability to express herself resulted in outbursts of anger and isolation. And then, through our SEE Learning intervention, which we did in partnership with the Government of Rajasthan, she was introduced to grounding exercises. Today, she has acquired the tools to identify and express her emotions effectively.

It’s not just students - even teachers, government officials, and the foundation’s staff, who once grappled with emotional pressures, are transformed today. We can see this transformation even at senior levels within the state education ecosystem. For example, Shri Kamalendra Singh Ranawat ji, the Deputy Director of Rajasthan State Council of Educational Research and Training (RSCERT), was feeling quite overwhelmed with his daily routine. Today, however, he’s a trainer for the SEE Learning program in the state, teaching his colleagues how to build emotional resilience.

Q V. What is the way forward now, from here?

A. I can confidently say that the future of SEE Learning now holds higher promise. Through continued collaboration among educators, policymakers, researchers, NGOs, and communities, we are today better placed to create holistic learning environments. I believe it’s essential to recognize that integrating social, emotional, and ethical learning into educational practice is crucial for cultivating responsible, empathetic, and resilient individuals.

Krishna Agrawal’s journey in the education sector began with a basic job profile, where his exceptional dedication soon led him to manage a team and, later, to assist over 150 students in achieving their dreams of studying in New Zealand within just a year. Under the initiative, arrangements will be made for free coaching, accommodation and food to Hindi medium students of government schools of Hindi speaking states of North India and schools of Vidya Bharati Sansthan. Trustees of the LN Maheshwari Parmarth Trust, Dr. Naveen Maheshwari and Dr. Brajesh Maheshwari, made this announcement at a press conference held on Tuesday. On this occasion, the poster of Shiksha Sambal Yojana was also released by the members associated with the Parmarth Nyas.
On this occasion, Trustee Dr. Naveen Maheshwari told that the source of inspiration behind this noble cause is their father, Shri Lakshminarayan Maheshwari, a resident of heavenly abode, who always emphasized on the importance of education and taught us charity. For this, the Trust has signed an MOU with Allen Career Institute, under which they will be given free coaching for the preparation of NEET-2025 at Allen Kota Campus. This selection will be for one year. In future too, work related to education and other fields will be carried out by the Trust.
Dr. Brajesh Maheshwari said that LN Maheshwari Parmarth Nyas aims to bring the light of education to every home, village and village. For this, examinations will be conducted at examination centers located in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand on June 9. The application process for the examination has started. Under the essential eligibility, the student must have an average of 50 percent marks in 12th Science and also 50 percent marks each in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The result of the exam will be declared on June 16 and studies of the selected students will start on July 5. The format of the question paper will be of multiple choice questions whereby a total of 120 questions will be asked, which will be based on the 12th Science exam only. Of these, 100 questions will have to be attempted. Students will have to answer 25 out of 30 questions in Physics, 25 out of 30 in Chemistry and 50 out of 60 questions in Biology.

The seminar was organised by IIM Sambalpur in association with the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi at Rangavati Centre for Excellence in Culture and Sustainable Management at IIM Sambalpur Campus. The objective of the seminar was to highlight the unknown aspects of the freedom struggle as well as the vibrant cultural heritage and folk traditions linked to sustainable management in western parts of Odisha.
During the inaugural session the Chief Guest, Prof. Bidhu Bhusan Mishra, Vice Chancellor, Sambalpur University; Guest of Honour, Prof. Chandi Prasad Nanda, Director of the Odisha Research Centre in Bhubaneswar and Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director, of IIM Sambalpur were present.
It is important to mention that IIM Sambalpur recently has been awarded Rs. Seventy Lakhs for a research programme entitled “A Critical Study of Folk Tradition, Cultural Heritage, Cultural History & Unknown Aspects of Armed and Non-Violent Freedom Struggle in Western Parts of Odisha by ICSSR.”
The Chief Guest, Prof. Bidhu Bhusan Mishra, Vice Chancellor, Sambalpur University said "One crucial aspect we must address is the often-overlooked contribution of Odisha to India's freedom struggle. Modern history books rarely highlight the significant role of our region in the freedom movement. Prof. Mishra further said “It is time to rewrite this narrative, ensuring Odisha's contributions are duly recognized. Freedom fighters like Jai Rajguru, who resisted British rule in the early 19th century, and the Khurda rebellion are seminal events that require documentation and celebration. We must remember and honour heroes like Veer Surendra Sai, whose contributions to our freedom struggle are monumental yet underrepresented in mainstream history. This seminar provides a platform to bring these untold stories to light, ensuring they become an integral part of India's historical narrative."
The Guest of Honour, Prof. Chandi Prasad Nanda, Director, Odisha Research Centre, Bhubaneswar said, "India is at a pivotal moment, witnessing significant paradigm shifts in intellectual activities and responding by seeking to rewrite knowledge practices that challenge existing hegemonic narratives. Rangavati, as conceptualized, aims to retrieve and celebrate forgotten memories, historical wisdom, sustainable management practices, and cultural heritage. It encourages us to engage with our rich and diverse cultural ecosystem, resonating with Portuguese sociologist Boaventura de Sousa Santos' argument that different knowledge practices deserve recognition and respect."
The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Hemachandra Padhan while the introductory remarks were shared by Prof.  Sujit Kumar Pruseth.  
Later during the day, 3 sessions were conducted on the topic: 'Unknown Aspects of Freedom Struggle in Western parts of Odisha' which was chaired by Prof Byomkesh Tripathy (Former VC, Odisha University of Culture). The session on "Veer Surendra Sai: Warfare Strategies and Tactics" was addressed by Dr Deepak Kumar Panda while Dr Bibhudutta Promod Kumar Mishra shared his insights on  "Kudopali Massacre and the 57 Martyrs". Similarly, Dr Tapan Kumar Barik threw light on "Freedom Fighter Pandit Laxmi Narayan Mishra. The second session entitled "Temple Entry at Panchpada Village, Cultural Heritage, and Sustainable Management was chaired by Dr Shyam Sundar Dhar. During the session, Dr Satya Narayan Thakur presented his vision on "Sankirtan in Western Odisha: Historical and Cultural Prospectives" while Dr Gouridas Padhan threw light on "Cultural Heritage of Western Odisha". It was followed by Dr Sarbeswar Padhan: who delivered his views on "Agriculture and Cultural Heritage of Western Odisha". The final session was conducted on the topic, "Cultural Tradition and Sustainable Management Chair Session" was chaired by Dr Laxmi Narayan Panigrahi (Odisha State Open University). Dr Sushil Kumar Bag shared his wisdom on "Nuakhai" while Dr Shyam Kumar Bhoi addressed "Dhanuyatra; Parampara and Adhunikata" followed by the deliberation by Sri Laxmi Narayan Hota on "Sitalsasthee". The seminar concluded with rapporteurs presented by  Ananya Prapti Hota, Dr Tapan Kumar Sahu and  Soumya Saswati Mohapatra.

National, April 11th, 2024 : The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Raipur proudly hosted its 13th Annual Convocation Ceremony on Wednesday, April 10th, 2024, commemorating the academic achievements and successes of its graduating students. The ceremony, held at the institute's campus in Naya Raipur, was a momentous occasion filled with pride and celebration. Family members, friends, and distinguished guests were audience to 22 student exchange graduates, 298 Post Graduate Program graduates, 184 E-PGP graduates, and 11 Fellow and Executive Fellow Program in Management graduates received their convocation degrees and medals. Along with these, 124 alumni from Batch 2018-20 and 2019-21 who had received their degree online also attended the ceremony and were physically convocated.
Distinguished guests and esteemed speakers graced the event, inspiring and motivating the young graduates as they prepared to embark on their professional journeys.
The Chief Guest for the ceremony was Shri G V Prasad, Co-Chairman and Managing Director of Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, who delivered the Convocation Address. Shri Puneet Dalmia, Chairperson of the Board of Governors, extended a warm Welcome Address, while Prof. Ram Kumar Kakani, Director of IIM Raipur, highlighted the institute's achievements and milestones in the Director's Report.
The chairperson BoG, Shri Puneet Dalmia congratulated the graduating batch and advised them to embrace lifelong learning. He further said, “Let the timeless Indian values be your guiding star, as you go through the ups and downs of life and navigate challenges to ultimately reach your goals. As you leave IIM Raipur and step into a world filled with opportunities, you carry with you not just a degree but a legacy of excellence. The knowledge you've gained here is a tool, not just for your personal success but for the larger good of society.”   
Chief guest Shri G V Prasad encouraged graduating students to be the future leaders of India, filled with potential and promise, stepping into the world by remembering to embrace innovation, resilience, and continuous learning. He urged them to navigate challenges and make meaningful contributions to society, to actively participate in initiatives that drive positive change.
He said, “The management education prepares you for three aspects of your work life: It gives you a broad perspective, develops your analytical and critical thinking skills and prepares you to face your life. Pivotal moments lead to the discovery and shaping of purpose in our journey.” He further talked about his journey at Dr. Reddy’s where at times he faced the hardships and had to lead the company through it making the company stronger than who run it. With this he urged the graduates to not be taken aback when moments of crisis come their way, they might be the ones that shape the purpose.
Furthermore, Prof. Kakani presented the Director’s report, where he shared IIM Raipur’s achievements in the past academic year, reflecting on its fourteen years of existence. He emphasised on Returns on Investments (ROI) in Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) of National Importance where he said, “The investment time frame across different sectors of society varies based on the nature of activities and the decision-makers involved. In higher education, academics align with the category where the requirement is long-term commitment akin to esteemed institutions like the Universities of Nalanda, Takshshila, Cambridge, and Oxford. Recognizing this, we should appreciate the significance of this aspect in nurturing IIM Raipur. Unlike the transient returns the impact of institutions like the Oxford endures across centuries. We at IIM Raipur strive towards the same as mentioned in our “Memorandum of Association” mandated by the Government of India.”

Amongst the Executive Post Graduate Programme (EPGP B2) students, Prachi Dikshit received the BOG Chairperson’s Gold Medal, Isha Bhatia received the Director’s Gold Medal and Nagesh Madhwal received the EPGP Chairperson’s gold medal for their scholastic performance.
In a first, IIM Raipur conducted a gratitude ceremony for parents and teachers: ‘Matr, Pitr, and Guru Pujan’ where students expressed their gratitude towards their parents and professors. This was organized in the morning of the convocation day. It is worth noting that this is the first time that such a ceremony has been organized and this sets IIM Raipur apart from others.

AICTE Chairman inaugurates IDE Bootcamp at IIM Sambalpur Campus in Virtual Mode
5-Day “Innovation, Design, and Entrepreneurship Bootcamp” Begins  at IIM Sambalpur Campus

Sambalpur :  IIM Sambalpur, one of India's premier management institutions, hosted the 5-day "Innovation, Design, and Entrepreneurship (IDE) Bootcamp (Phase II)" at its campus.  Organized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) & Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell (MIC), the bootcamp was inaugurated by Prof. T. G. Sitharam, Chairman - AICTE in virtual mode from AICTE Headquarters, New Delhi. As many as 81 start-ups are participating in the bootcamp from the States like Maharashtra, Odisha, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, out of them 40 startups are from Odisha.

The Chief Guest, Prof. T. G. Sitharam Chairman AICTE, Govt. of India  acknowledged the successful completion of six IDE boot camps in phase-one and said, "The commencement of phase-two at ten locations of the Innovation, Design, and Entrepreneurship Boot Camp marks the unique initiative envisioned by Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The goal is to nurture innovation, design, and entrepreneurial skills among the youths of India.
Prof Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director, IIM Sambalpur, shared, "This initiative aligns with the vision of our Hon'ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, who envisions India leading in the startup age. In today's world, power can be classified into hard power and soft power, and innovation is a crucial element of soft power. Research, innovation, and entrepreneurship are interlinked components of soft power. India is making strides in research and innovation, with efforts to reposition it from a lower rank, albeit challenging in funding. However, in entrepreneurship and startup India is among top three position in the world. 
Prof Jaiswal further said,” It is important for students and innovators to become the job givers and creators rather than job seekers. The focus should extend beyond completing the curriculum. He said, "Innovation is the key to the future of every nation, and it has the power to shape industries, revolutionize markets, and leave a lasting impact on the world."
The introductory address was given by Prof Diwahar Nadar, faculty of IIM Sambalpur while the event was concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof Ishika Jaiswal, faculty of IIM Sambalpur.

On the first day, the participants showcased their innovations in the exhibition. On the fourth day, the local tour will be arranged for the participants to provide them with real-world insights, networking opportunities, and creative inspiration, enhancing their entrepreneurial mindset. On the final day, the student teams pitch their innovations in front of expert panels consisting of startup founders, incubators, lP experts, angel Investors and VCs & knowledge agencies. The IDE Bootcamps exemplify the government's commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, propelling India towards becoming a global hub for innovation-driven enterprises.

4-Day 9th PAN-IIM World Management Conference begins at IIM Sambalpur
A special screening of the Pran Pratishtha Ceremony from Ayodhya Ram Mandir took place at IIM Sambalpur 

Sambalpur: The 9th PAN IIM World Management Conference (WMC) at IIM Sambalpur observed an important initiation where the Union Minister for Education, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the 'Rangavati Centre of Excellence in Cultural and Sustainable Management.' While inaugurating the Rangavati Centre of Excellence in Cultural and Sustainable Management, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan said, "The centre will prove to be a hub for preserving the cultural heritage of Odisha, including dances, soulful songs, nature worship, and the rich food culture. The primary focus of the centre will be research on the art, literature, culture, and history of western Odisha, with a special emphasis on textiles."

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Mr Ratnesh Jha, Executive Director, UN Global Compact; Mr S N Tripathi, DG, IIPA, New Delhi, and Mr Romal Shetty, CEO, Deloitte. On the occasion, Prof. BS Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu; Prof. Kulbhushan Balooni, Director, IIM Kashipur; Prof. Bhimaraya Metri, Director, IIM Nagpur and Prof. Pawan Kumar Singh, Director, IIM Trichy were also present at the inauguration ceremony. 

Professor Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director, IIM Sambalpur highlighted the 3Ds disruptions - Digitalization, Decarbonization, and Democratization of business. He said, "The world is changing and the world is disrupting through three Ds. Disruption due to digitalization, disruption due to decarbonization, and disruption due to democratization of business." He also emphasized India's potential to lead the world in digital disruptions, citing initiatives such as UIDAI and UPI. He further said, "Before the colonization, India had 32% of the GDP of the world.  Through innovation, sustainability and 3Ds, we can achieve it back." He added, "The Rangavati Centre at IIM Sambalpur, inaugurated by the Hon'ble Minister, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, will have an open theatre to showcase the vibrant art and culture of the region. This endeavour underscores our commitment to forging a significant bond with the local community, highlighting the significance of embracing and commemorating regional development and diversity."

The Chief Guest, Mr Romal Shetty, CEO, Delloitte South Asia emphasized the importance of innovation in various aspects of India's growth by focusing on collaboration, sustainability, and digital governance. Through the PowerPoint presentation, Mr Shetty emphasized the need for a holistic approach to innovation, highlighting examples such as Chandrayaan, Malcolm McLean's containerization, and Indian companies like Ceat revolutionizing the logistics industry. He said, "Innovation is a fairly large topic, including growth, governance and sustainability." Shetty underscored the Apple Watch as an example of far-sightedness planning for sustainability, and the remarkable success of India's FASTag and GST implementation in reducing waiting times, saving fuel and curbing corruption. He inspired students to learn to look at problems with different perspectives to innovate for multiple solutions.  He emphasized the need for the younger generation to stay in India and contribute to its growth, highlighting the abundant opportunities in the country."
The Guest of Honor, Mr S N Tripathi, DG, IIPA, New Delhi, highlighted scope of IIMs role in the country and the imperative need for a mindset shift in the numerous departments and organizations within Indian ministries and the basic structure of the Government.  He cited an example – “Thirty million people are governing this country and there are three crore bureaucrats right from linemen to chairman, who are part of the government and changing their mindset with 21 IIMs is not an easy task.”  He further said, "To develop the people of India, we need more insights than just data."
Earlier during the day, a Doctoral Consortium was also organised which proved as an invaluable platform for emerging scholars and doctoral candidates. The inaugural ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Sudhendar H. Rao, Conference Chair, IIM Sambalpur.
It is to be recalled that the 4-Day 9th PAN IIM World Management Conference (WMC) is being organised at IIM Sambalpur from Monday, January 22, 2024 to Wednesday, January 24, 2024 with the theme "Entrepreneurial Innovation and Digital Governance for Inclusive and Sustainable Growth.” The hybrid conference will witness the IIM Director Panel, CEO Panel, CHRO Panel, Startup Round Table Discussion, Accreditation Panel, Interaction with Editors and Research Paper presentations. This groundbreaking event will take place from November 26th to November 30th, 2023, in New Delhi, India, with a primary focus on "Addressing felt need for training and capacity building of care providers."
This is the first time in India that the foundation and advanced Gender Affirmative Care Workshop in Transgender Health is organized by the IIHMR New Delhi and AIIMS New Delhi. The courses will be conducted by certified international faculty & and professionals in Transgender Health from the Global Education Institute (GEI) of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) and the University of Colorado, USA. They will be assisted by domain experts from the Indian Professional Association for Transgender Health (IPATH), the professional arm of ATHI.
The participants for the IPATHCON 2023 are from Medicine (Medical, Nursing, and Para-medical), Public Health, Social Sciences, Education & and from transgender community cadre.

Besides Sakhiyon Ki Baadi, IIFL Foundation has many other education-focused initiatives. IIFL Foundation’s innovative model ‘Maa Bari’ project has transformed 30 schools with modern infrastructure and facilities to promote education for first-time learners from indigenous tribal communities in Rajasthan. Another project is ‘Sampark’, through which IIFL Foundation aims to reach over 4 lac students across 5800+ government schools in Rajasthan improving their English and Mathematics with an opportunity to expand to more schools. 

IIFL Foundation’s ‘Digital Shaala’ project introduces 5000+ students to digital pedagogy with installation of TV sets equipped with AV learning material covering grades 6 to 10. IIFL Foundation’s Sesame Community radio initiative reaches over 2.5 lac students providing foundational literacy. Lakshmi specializes in Neuroscience, and her presentation will focus on her pioneering study on the change in DNA structure from B-Z form in the neurodegenerative brain. Her research proposes the potential impact of this structural change in causing cell death in the brain, ultimately leading to debilitating conditions such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. As brain disorders continue to be a significant global challenge, with an estimated 155 million cases projected by the year 2050, understanding the mechanisms behind brain cell death becomes imperative. It is noteworthy that only 5-8% of these diseases are genetically determined, while anyone can be susceptible to developing these brain disorders.

She has collaborated with prestigious institutions like OIST in Japan and has been awarded the ISN travel award to visit the United States. Additionally, Lakshmi has plans to collaborate with the Paris Brain Institute and other renowned institutions to delve deeper into the mysteries of the brain and gain a better understanding of brain disorders. Her motivation to explore these challenging disorders stems from her experiences visiting hospitals and witnessing the impact on brain-affected patients.

Dr. G. Pardha Saradhi Varma, the Vice Chancellor of KL Deemed to be University, expressed his admiration for Lakshmi's intellectual prowess and broad-minded approach in unraveling the complexities of the brain.
